They had been owned by her secretary and friend and were quickly acquired by both institutional libraries and specialized private collectors. Ayn Rand's handwritten pages from her original manuscript of Atlas Shrugged are the Holy Grail for everyone interested in her work. The handful of pages not given by her to the Library of Congress had been saved by a friend and when available fetched prices commensurate with their importance in modern American political thought.
