Charles Darwin's Signature was Collected and Treasured

Charles Darwin's autograph was a 19th century trophy and Darwin's signature was collected and treasured by his contemporaries making his autograph collectible for today's admirers. It was a custom in the 19th century to cut signatures from letters as souvenirs of the great people of the times.

Charles Darwin was the first to succeed in commanding respect for all naturalists with his presentation of the theory of evolution - the theory that species evolved as the fittest members survived and passed their traits on to future generations. His theories were developed on his visit to the Galapagos Islands and published in Origin of Species in 1859. His controversial theory was quickly accepted in scientific circles but received opposition from religious leaders. Today, Darwin's theories are embraced by scientists and are the starting point for the modern study of evolutionary biology. The need for fundamentalist religious groups to literally believe the bible keeps his name and work frequently in the news today. Charles Darwin's extraordinary achievements are not restricted to his early scientific and evolutionary works. His original work in geology, botany, invertebrate zoology, psychology and scientific travel writing contributed immeasurably to human knowledge and he remains extraordinarily relevant to the 21st century.

Charles Darwin Signed Letters

Charles Darwin signed letters are rarer than his signatures because his signed letters frequently concern some aspect of his scientific work and have been aggressively collected by scientific institutions for decades. Nevertheless, Charles Darwin signed letters do occasionally appear for modern admirers to acquire and feel the presence of one of the great minds of modern times.
