Charles Dickens was one the most popular writers of the 19th century and the demand among admirers for Dickens' autograph, signature, and signed letters reflects his continuing popularity among readers in the 21st century. Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, Pickwick Papers, Old Curiosity Shop, and Tale of Two Cities, have never gone out of print and his stories of human nature have never gone out of style or popularity. Dickens' works were serialized as they were first published and stories of crowds of his readers waiting on docks for the arrival of the latest installment from England are legends.

Charles Dickens Signature and Autographs

Charles Dickens' signature and autographs were very stylistically written reflecting his unique style and personality. Dickens' signature is most frequently encountered in the form of the closing sentiments and signatures from letters. The collecting of autographs of notable persons became popular in Victorian England and Dickens was probably the most popular personality of his day. Autographs were collected in small autograph albums and since it was unlikely a person would meet the novelist in person, admirers wrote to him requesting his signature. Dickens always replied in the form of a signed letter, and to fit the album, the closing and signature were removed and mounted.
