David Ben-Gurion’s autographs, signatures, signed letters and photographs are very popular and sought after by the many people interested in Jewish history and the history of Israel. As the first Prime Minister of the State of Israel, he has been recognized as Israel’s best known leader and David Ben-Gurion’s autograph signatures symbolize Jewish unity for many people. Fortunately for collectors and admirers today, Ben-Gurion was very willing to sign photographs and cards for those seeking a direct connection with him, and at one time, autograph drafts of his letters came onto the market, but these have been disbursed among collectors. Occasionally, one might come back onto the market, but they are quite scarce today.

Born in Poland, Ben-Gurion’s life-long passion for Zionism led him to Palestine just after the turn of the century. He attended Istanbul University, then moved to New York City just before World War I. He served in the British Army and moved back to Palestine, then under British rule, after the war. His roles in leadership in Palestine had a basis in his belief that peace with the Palestinian Arabs was not possible. He stated that if he were a Palestinian Arab, he would not make peace with the Jews because the Jews had come to Palestine and taken their land. Based on this fundamental belief, he wanted a strong Jewish Army, and during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, Ben-Gurion led the new state of Israel to victory and survival.
