Ernest Hemingway's autograph, signature, and signed letters are available for today's admirers and collectors for many reasons, principally because he was well known as a very popular writer from the 1920's through the 1950's, appearing in many magazines, as well as his major novels, and because he clearly liked to express himself in writing his letters. The popularity of his novels - Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Old Man and the Sea and The Sun Also Rises - continues into the 21st century. People in the 1920's saved and cherished Ernest Hemingway's autograph, signature, and signed letters and readers of his works in the 21st century cherish the idea of owning the direct connection the original signature, autograph or signed letter gives.

Ernest Hemingway's Autograph

Ernest Hemingway's autograph is more available in signed letters than in the form of a signature alone. He did give his autograph signature when asked but Hemingway spent much of the 1920's in Paris, where he was not well known, then worked as a war correspondent during the Spanish Civil War and as a correspondent in Europe during World War II. After that he lived in Cuba, spending his time writing and fishing - all situations unlikely to produce Hemingway's autograph or signature separate from letters.

Ernest Hemingway Signed Letters

Ernest Hemingway signed letters vary in the importance of their content from the routine to the insightful and the prices reflect this. Signed letters about bull fighting, fishing, and hunting reflect his macho image, and many others discuss the business side of his writing - fees for magazine articles, etc. Hemingway was married many times and letters occasionally concern the domestic issues of marriage, children, and life in general.
