LOUIS IX

[LOUIS IX]. Saint Louis. King of France. (1226-1270); canonized in 1297. A French legal document, dating from the eighteenth year of the reign of King Louis IX, by P. Baudi, chief priest of Arverto, concerning a dispute. In Latin, on vellum, 4 by 8 1/4 inches, December 22, 1244. The charter records an agreement concerning a dispute between the prior of Maria de Insula in Arverto and the parishioners of the church over the rightful tithe claimed by the prior. It is agreed that the prior shall have the eleventh sheaf of all the grains and the thirteenth part of vintages. Very slight ageing, basically in fine condition.
