CRIME - DILLINGER.
Wanted poster issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for John Dillinger, whose mug shot appears in the upper center portion, below the word "WANTED," one page, folio [15 3/4 by 9 inches], June 23, 1934. The poster publicizes a $10,000 reward for his capture or $5000 for information leading to his arrest. The F.B.I. supplies a description of Dillinger as 32 years old, 5 feet 7 1/8 inches tall, 153 pounds, with "medium chestnut" hair and gray eyes. Dillinger has a scar on the back of his left hand and on the middle of his upper lip, and a brown mole between his eyebrows. The F.B.I. invites anyone with knowledge of Dillinger's whereabouts to contact them "by telephone or telegraph collect." This "Wanted" circular was issued by the DOI, Division of Investigation, the forerunner of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. J. Edgar Hoover, the Division's director, was the first to make great use of collecting and distributing the photographs of wanted criminals. This circular marks an important moment in the law enforcement work to capture Dillinger. Framed (in a gold frame with a cream inner mat and a maroon outer mat) dimensions: 14 1/2 inches wide by 21 1/2 inches high.
