AVIATION - ALCOCK/BROWN

[AVIATION]. John W. ALCOCK and Arthur W. Brown BROWN. English aviators; made the first non-stop transatlantic flight, from Newfoundland to Ireland, in 1919. Signatures on a 4 3/4 by 6 1/4 inch partly printed invitation to a formal reception in their honor, given on July 17, 1919 by the Lord Mayor and Corporation of Manchester. Fine condition.

Captain Alcock was the pilot and Lieutenant Brown was the navigator on their June 1919 non-stop transatlantic flight. Their aircraft was a Vickers Vimy, named after a battle in World War I.
