Martin Luther King's Autographs, Signatures, Signed Letters

Result Control

Martin Luther King's autographs, signatures, and signed letters are in great demand by the large number of Americans of all ethnic backgrounds who look to the pioneering civil rights leader as an inspiration for nonviolent movements to correct injustices in society. Martin Luther King saw equality for blacks as a fundamental right that people deserved based on their being equal members of society, and showed the violent and evil side of segregation by his movements and nonviolent protests. King became the hero of not only black people, but white as well, and his autographs and signatures were sought after by many people who encountered him in person. King signed programs, napkins, magazines, blank pieces of paper - just about anything someone had at hand when they unexpectedly ran into him. We have had a car rental form autographed by him, and an airline ticket with his signature. Despite his fame and popularity during his lifetime, and his willingness to give his autographs and signatures in person, Martin Luther King's autographs and signatures are not common, because his life was cut short before his 40th birthday, and because those who obtained King's autographs and signatures have treasured them and not parted with them. These relics of Martin Luther King's were equally cherished by those who inherited his autographs and signatures, and these pieces have stayed in families. It is usually the case that the generation after the one that acquired autographed material directly does not have the same personal connection and puts pieces on the market, but that has not been the case with Martin Luther King.

Martin Luther King's Signed Letters

Martin Luther King's signed letters are very scarce and very desirable among collectors, fans and admirers. King did not carry on correspondences that have come onto the market; perhaps he used the telephone or in-person meetings to carry on the business of his ministry, but for such a prominent and well-known person, few of his signed letters become available.
